Mele Kalikimaka

Seems like we don't live in New England, lol. It's been brisk, but a very calm November none-the-less. Not that I'm complaining!

It's amazing how quickly a year - and for that a semester - can go. It feels like just yesterday I had gotten home from a vacation in Florida with my friends. The weather has changed slower than the hours, but I don't regret any of it. There have been times this year when I wasn't really sure what was in store for me. Things have happened that I never would have expected, including losing someone dear to me, but at the same time it feels like I've re-lived a year of my life. Maybe that has to do with what I missed out on last year, or maybe it's because my life is falling into place. No matter what the reason, I love this weather and that Christmas is just around the corner. It's my favorite holiday, because for a few weeks it seems like everyone is that much nicer to one another, that much happier to share in love and peace with mankind. We are given a short time during the year to live in a more serene, utopian society. I only wish others were as willing to make that feeling last like I am.

Is age all it seems to be?

I can't believe someone called me old tonight. I mean, really? lol

I was at a hockey game with some friends, and the girls behind me were talking about how they were getting old. "We're almost 22...oh my god!", "Yeah, do you know how old that is?!", "Eww...". So, of course I had to turn and say something. "Thanks guys, you made me feel real good."

"Oh, why are you 22?" And when I shook my head yes..."Oh, I'm so sorry. I feel bad for you." WTF?!

It's November? Where did my year go?!

On Thursday I found out that the pre-calc class that had become the bane of my existence was unnecessary. Apparently to fill the requirement I could take the second class which didn't require pre-calc. Needless to say I shot over to registration and dropped the class. $320 may have been wasted, but at least the class can attest to the uselessness of the teacher. As I was leaving the office a boy in my class turned and asked if I was still in it. I chuckled and said no. He then told me he had just dropped it as well, and was told that three people had dropped before us. What started as a class of 40 is now less than 10. True, he is very smart and a nice guy, but he just can't teach. Hopefully his class averages (and the fact that students are dropping like flies) will be enough of a hint to the chair to get rid of this guy. He's not worth the money they are probably paying him.

All my other classes are going well. Something strange happened Friday, though. I was walking to class after breakfast and as I got close to my building I hear, "Hey." I turn and see a guy from the class I was going to. I said hi back and we chatted for a bit. Nothing in particular..how is your project going? what's your major, etc. Then after class was over I was walking to the elevator and he walked up next to me. "Sorry, forgot to catch your name." I already knew his because the professor has made jokes a few times that he can't know who Steve is unless he sits in his usual spot, lol. Not that this whole thing was strange on its own, but we haven't talked all semester and now we were having conversations? Then yesterday at the library I was working on a project, listening to my ipod, and I felt a tap on my shoulder. Steve was there and we chatted for a bit until he decided he would sit at the computer next to me. I'm not sure what he did but once I was finished he packed his stuff up and walked me out.

Since it was Halloween we talked about the night's plans. I didn't have any because all my friends were occupied with other things - that meant I'd be at home doing homework. When we separated he suggested I should go out. I told him I'd try and he responded, "I hope so." Hmm...*shrugs*. Could be nothing, could be something. ;)

Finally!

It's finally mid-semester break. Amazing how time flies...soon the semester will be over! Classes are going well, other than pre-calc. I've accepted that I'll most likely fail, but it is better to fail trying than to drop out and give up. I hope things are going well for all of you out there in blogger-world. ;)

I leave you with this thought: "If you had the chance to right one wrong in your life, what would it be?"

Time goes by

Didn't realized it had been so long since my last post. I guess the heavy school schedule has really gotten to me. :)

Classes are going well, except for pre-calc. I have decided he can't teach too well because he's new, but rather he couldn't teach his way out of a paper bag. Forgive me for sounding cruel, but all the studying I do, including getting a tutor and visiting him during office hours, I can't learn anything. Many of my classmates, as well as students from his other class, are failing. He has also said (on two occasions), "Either you guys are all really stupid or I'm not teaching it right. So, maybe I need to fix my teaching because there's no way all of you could be that dumb." Wtf mate....

Otherwise things are going well. My next step, after conquering my busy schedule, will be to lose the excess weight I gained this past year from the prednisone and having to eat meals with a higher calorie content.

Beanie Success!

Well, Dotty the Dalmatian and Doby the Doberman are off to their new home. I wish their new owner the best of times with her new friends! :)

Blizzard

This is Blizzard the White Tiger. Blizzard is on The Beanie Zone for $4.80! That's 40% off from his original tag price of $7.99. He's absolutely adorable, and looking for a good home. His price is marked down because his hang tag is detached and creased. However, he's still in good condition as a whole. :)

Another one down

Thankfully this past weekend lasted three days. Unfortunately, I was chained to my desk the entire time. :P But, I got the work done that I wanted, so at least some of my goals were accomplished.

My plans for the weekend include homework, but I'm at least going to get out for a bit on Saturday. Going to go to breakfast with my aunt and go see a movie with one of my friends at night. Thank god for student discounts! :D

I finally got to meet my seminar professor, and he seems like a great guy. Though my classes demand a lot when it comes to assignments, at least I was lucky to get instructors that I like (or at least can tolerate).

Week 1 complete!!

Wow, it seems so weird writing on my blog now that a week has passed. I had no time whatsoever. I'm taking my core classes so there's a lot of homework right off the bat. I'm not complaining, I was just shocked.

Let's see, all my professors seem nice and will be fun to learn from. One was a little shocking when we first met him. We're standing outside the door waiting until it's close enough to class time so we don't look like nerds in there half an hour early, lol. Not that I care, but after walking all that way I need an excuse to just stand there and catch my breath, so I stand with the kids who think they're cool, lol. And the others are just nerds. :D

So this guy walks by us, nods his head and enter the room. I don't know why but the minute one person walks into the classroom it's like a sign for everyone else to go in as well. As if they're afraid to take the first step. Anyway, we walk in and I notice him writing on the chalkboard. He was wearing black sneakers, plaid shorts, and a black x-men/marvel comics t-shirt. We were like, "this guy's the teacher?!" lol. He later told us he thinks all the teachers should dress like the students. And he wore similar clothes thursday, so he must be serious about coming to class dressed like us. Apparently it's only his second class ever, so he's a newbie but no biggie. As long as he can teach I could care less if he showed up in a mascot uniform. Ok, maybe that would make it hard to concentrate, but still. Lol, anyone have some funny college memories that they'd like to share?

So it begins...

Well, the summer is officially over as of tomorrow. Finally finished everything I needed to do this weekend, so now it's just a matter of waiting for dawn. Hopefully the semester will go well and then I can enjoy it. I wish that one class would move so that it's easier to get to. Oh well, I guess that's where I'll get my exercise. :D

Award time!

Chic new award!

Ooh! They love my blog :)
My two bloggy friends Kat of Candles, Crafts and Whatnot and Jackie of The Painted Veil gave me this wonderful new award (it's French). In this case, let me give you a big...

MERCI BEAUCOUP!!!

The 'rules' for this award is much the same as always: grab the award and post it on your blog, linking to the person that passed it along to you. You may pass it on to as many bloggers as you wish. Do let them know in a comment on their respective blogs. Have fun!

Now I'd like to pass this chic new award on to the following bloggers. I adore your blogs too!

in no particular order:

Duni at Lovely Purses
Clotilde Dusoulier at Chocolate & Zucchini
Elisabeth at How to Beat a Guy in 10 Plays
Rachel Whetzel at Memories of Mine to Thine

Weekend weather...

Doesn't it figure the one day I won't be outside this weekend is when it doesn't rain? Never fails, I swear. Don't get me wrong, because rain is my favorite weather. Especially thunderstorms. However, it isn't my favorite when I have to carry (well, when my family has to carry, lol) totes and everything to move me in.

On the news it said that Michael Jackson's death had been ruled homicide from the mix of lorazepam and propofol. Now the question remains: was it intentional or simply negligence? I don't have an opinion on the alleged child molestation issues, but nobody deserves to die of a drug overdose...especially when at least one of your doctors could have prevented it.

Beanie Tuesday

Blackie the Bear is currently valued at $7.99. On http://thebeaniezone.goods.officelive.com she is listed at this value because she is considered to be in mint condition. She's the first of the bears in my collection, and I'm sure you'll enjoy her as much as I have.

Time flies!

Wow, I can't believe my last post was 11 days ago. What happened?

Getting ready for school. I'll be happy to be on campus this year since last year I was condemned to doing online courses. It was annoying not to be able to raise your hand to ask questions, but other than that it wasn't hard to adjust to. I can count my blessings, and that's really what matters.

I think I'm bothering my Mom since I don't need new clothes/purse/supplies. She probably loves that I don't want to spend money, but I think she's a little disappointed not being able to drag me to the store and try things out. It makes me laugh when I think of her shaking her head at my "I'm ok I don't need anything" comments. Good to have a smile on your face as you think of thoughts like that.

Say what?

I can't believe people are sending rumours out that Michael Vick was supposed to join the Buffalo Bills. He's the loser (for lack of a better term) that was arrested for dog fighting? The news crews announced that it is an untrue rumour and that the Bills aren't considering taking him on yet.....yet? What happened to the idea that these players are role models for children? The fact that Vick can still play is insulting. I remember football players used to be looked down upon for actions such as that (Lynch, Stalworth, etc.). Children growing up with this "new attitude" are thinking, hey, I can get away with that...I can do whatever I want and not lose my job! What about how these decisions translate to every day life? These are the people that go out and shoot cops, rape, murder, etc., just because they think they won't get punished! It's got to stop and if it needs to start somewhere, let it start with the celebrities...they're the ones our children are watching.

Love Stinks...

I'll have to give this post to some personal reflection. Today I'm skipping the beanie talk, and I'm not jotting down a quick note about my day. Today, it's a quick complaint about my "love life".

If my boyfriend and I were still together, we would have celebrated 2 years today. I ended things 2 months ago, but I still feel a pang every now and then about what we had. For the final three months of our relationship, he didn't spend a single day with me - in fact he claimed not to take any days off except for the three he spent in Boston with his best friend. Plus he forgot my birthday...and then became upset when I pointed that out to him, claiming that he didn't forget and couldn't believe I'd think that about him.

On one hand, I feel relieved because for most of our relationship I felt like I treated him more as a son than as a boyfriend. I tried not to, but it became increasingly difficult when he couldn't find a job and always complained about his landlord. I'll admit, she was a psycho - but that didn't excuse him for being so passive about his unemployment.

On the other hand, I miss what we had. When our relationship began we could talk for hours, whether we were on the phone or not. After about 6 months, we couldn't hold a conversation to save our lives. I pointed this out to him multiple times and repeatedly ask that he at least try (I always felt like I was trying to carry on one with myself). Aside from the conversation, we used to see each other nearly every day. I realize now that wasn't smart, especially once I got sick and had to live 40 minutes away without being allowed to drive. He always took the trip, and always complained. Well, enough complaining. I just needed to get this burden off my chest...

Bernie the St. Bernard

Ty Beanie Babies® that are considered to be "very good", they are in great condition but they are missing their tag(s). Only 45% to 60% of the value can be demanded by the seller. Bernie is currently valued at $9.99, but he's listed on my website for $6 (that's 40% off!). He is considered to be in the "very good" category, but his tags are available. His original "tush tag" is still attached, and his hang tag is creased as well as detached. However, his detached hang tag is still available and will be sent with the beanie when he has been purchased.

Afterwards...

Party went [mostly] as planned. There were a few problems, but everyone expects a hitch now and then. There were three people missing from dinner and two returned after the food had been stored...but it's easy to accomodate afterward if you pack/plan properly. Then there was the food. It was really good (if too much), except that both types of chicken were really dry. Very disappointing...but we're glad we decided on the package versus buying all three proteins separately...it made it easier to deal with dry chicken when it's less expensive overall. :)

Not going to get to see my brother until Friday, and then he leaves on Saturday. I remember when we were younger we were always fighting. But hey, if siblings don't fight they're abnormal in my opinion, lol. Now I realize how important he is to me and how much I'll miss him when he's gone. I guess I should've believed my family when they told me as we get older we'll get along better.

Full steam ahead!

It's almost 7am and I'm drinking coffee, preparing for the day ahead. We're throwing a party for my brother since he came home from a 20 week training only a week ago and he leaves next Saturday. The party doesn't start until 1pm but there are still things that need to be done. Spent all of yesterday cleaning the house and getting the fresh fruit washed and plated.

This morning we need to put together two salads - one fruit and one green - as well as dish up the mac and potato salads. The lunch/dinner is going to be catered, but we still need to cook the salt potatoes. Hey, I suggested that's too much starch but who listens, right? :)

My aunt, uncle, and cousins came in from NH and she made a beautiful flag cake with an eagle and flag painted onto a plate of fondant to decorate the top. Absolutely gorgeous. My brother is still asleep in the other room so I have to keep my typing as quiet as possible...but he'll be woken eventually when the kiddies come downstairs. :)

Calorie surprise!

So, I read in an article today that the Cold Stone Creamery peanut butter & chocolate shake has 2,010 calories. Say what?! It actually shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did, but hey I never figured something like that would be more than 400 calories. I guess that if I really want to get back to my normal size I should stick to water. Counting food calories won't matter if you drink something like this.

Beak the Bird

This is Beak the Ty-Dye Kiwi Bird. He is currently at a value of $5.99 but is on sale for $4.50 on my website. He is considered to be in excellent condition, like Ants and Batty, and will always make you smile.

Weekday oddity

I tried posting this last night and had difficulty. So, it's gonna be considered a two for one special. :)

I must say I found the lack of emails last week to be both a disappointment and a relief. The website where I sell my Ty Beanie Babies® has one email for questions and another for orders, but I was unable to access the latter through the computer available to me this past week. I was concerned that if I didn't get the information and an order was requested that I wouldn't be able to follow my own rules. If I recieve an order I have given 4 to 5 days as a maximum delay. If I didn't get them, I'd be disappointing my customers and that is not what I want to do.

Sunday, August 2, 2009

Batty the Brown Bat was the first bat offered in the Ty Beanie Babies® collection. Go to http://thebeaniezone.goods.officelive.com he is for sale at $8.99 from $11.99 (25% off). Batty is considered to be in "excellent" condition according to beanie baby standards. My brother has the same one in his collection, and it was one of his favorites when these beanies first became "part of the family".

Beanie entry #3

Ants the Anteater is for sale at http://thebeaniezone.goods.officelive.com. He is considered to be in excellent condition according to Ty Beanie Baby® evaluation standards, and therefore is marked down to $4.50 (25% off). Hurry before he's gone!

Remember when...

I remember when Ty Beanie Babies® first came onto the scene. Now that I think about it, they've been around for a very long time. They may not be advertised as often as they used to be, and it seems Webkinz have taken over the title of "new toy craze". I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm beginning to feel old...especially since I'm trying to sell a collection that I've had in my possession since this beanie brand first entered the market.

Medical Mishaps

Ok, so I went to have an MRI yesterday, and figured it couldn't be too bad since I've had one before. I couldn't have been more wrong.

First off, we got there about half an hour early, and normally that would be a good thing. Didn't get taken back to go over paperwork and get changed until my normal appointment time (2:30). Still, not too bad since I knew at least one person was ahead of me. Second thing was that I didn't get taken back to do the actual test until about 4pm. A little ridiculous when there are more than one of the machines in operation.

Now, the actual test part wasn't too bad....about 30 mins. long in total. The last time I had an MRI just one test was 30 mins. The bad side of this was that my nurse had issues giving me the contrast. First, he tried my left hand...and when it would bleed (at all), it stopped so he tried a little higher on the same hand. I told him, "Well, I drank enough to be hydrated for my 2:30 appointment." I don't think he got my point, but what am I gonna do? Wait another 10 mins. or so to drink water and then go back in? I suggested he try my right at the elbow, and that was more successful. Don't get me wrong, it really wasn't his fault. However, the aftermath was a little disconcerting.

When I got home (about half an hour later), I noticed that on both sides of my elbow injection site the skin was puffy and completely white, with a small purple dot to indicate where the actual needle entered. I spent the night wearing an ice pack and by the time I went to bed a few hours later the swelling had gone down slightly. When I woke up this morning, thankfully the swelling and the white tint were gone. Now my only disappointment are the bruises at my injection sites.

Can't ever have a simple procedure it seems. Am I just lucky?

Simple Sunday

Ever feel like you aren't a big help to anyone? I had one of those days today. My family is going around the house (even outside) cleaning, and no matter what every time I offer to help I'm told, "It's ok, we're all set." I won't lie sometimes that response is nice because I'd rather just relax, but no matter what I feel useless. I can clean the windows or dust the shelves, but my family is always one step ahead of me. I know my illness keeps me weak so I can't do a lot of things I used to be able to (like vacuum the stairs or scrub baseboards). But I still would like to help. Hopefully when I return to college in the fall, this feeling won't be replaced with "Why am I the only one cleaning?". :)

Finally Friday

Well, here's to a relaxing weekend prior to new medical tests. I'll spend my time relazing and re-loading songs onto my iTunes. I think I need to go through my CDs to see which ones I don't listen to anymore - it's possible that I have too many. :)

Thursday in July

Rain has returned. Doesn't matter to me, because I like the rain. I think I'd be perfectly happy if it rained every day. Though some people think it's depressing, I think it is soothing and it comforts the soul.

I have been going through the my beanie collection and find some of the poems in the tags to be amusing. Then again, there are others where you think they were stretching for a rhyme...but this does not mean it's less entertaining.

Wednesday Beanie

Ty Beanie Baby® entry #2:

Prickles the Hedgehog DOB: February 19, 1998
"Prickles the hedgehog loves to play.
She rolls around the meadow all day
tucking under her feet and head
Suddenly she looks like a ball instead!"

Medical Prep

Well, tomorrow I have the first of multiple appointments over the next two weeks. Need to go get blood drawn in preparation for the appointments next week, and then I will be "visiting" the rheumatologist. Next Monday will include my second (ever) MRI, and then next Wednesday I go for an EEG (brain study). I sometimes wonder if I should just set-up a cot in Strong.....I seem to be there often enough. I guess the only downside to all of this is that if I'm mentioned in the medical journal my name will be stricken from the record. This means I get no credit for my troubles. :) Oh well, take one for the team, right?

What does this have to do with Ty Beanie Babies®? I'm not really sure. I guess the only conclusion I can logically make is that when I became really sick I needed 24 hr. care, which means I had to be moved from one parent's house to another, and along came all my stuff. I figured selling them would get the most use out of them since I'm not adding to my collection anymore. It's better to share with others who will enjoy them for being there.

Monday, July 13, 2009

Day Four

Well, it was actually nice out today. Of course, I guess you could consider every day a nice day for me since I rarely go outside. I don't have anything against mother nature, but I prefer the low lighting inside. My opthamologist says that's because I have larger than normal pupils so light seems brighter to me. Makes sense. Just kinda wish the other medical details in my life made as much sense.

Day One

Hello,

This is my first blog, which I've created to get in touch with Ty Beanie Baby enthusiasts. I have a collection I am interested in selling, but I also find it nice to get to know others with similar interests. Have a great day! :)
